Last night, we had our first basketball game of the inaugural season of the Perrine Baptist Basketball League. I was worried that I wouldn’t have a full team since of the seven guys on the roster I couldn’t get a hold of three of them and a fourth didn’t have a car. But I was lucky enough to pick up a fourth man (who ended up being the best player on the squad) and I was able to secure my UM buddy, Ryan, for a fifth. Anyways, my knee is still incredibly tender and I shouldn’t have been on the court but I was going to take one for the team. The good news is that we won. The bad news is it was by forfeit. We were able to scrimmage against a pick-up squad and lost 30-42. I started off pretty well scoring the first bucket for our team. As the game went on my mobility slowed and my knee really started to bother me. During the second half I was completely ineffective. I could barely walk down the court. I finished the game with four points, one steal, one block and three assists. I need to play better next week.

Oh boy, my favorite photo site, Flickr was just bought by Yahoo. From what I understand Flickr will be improved and not become Yahoo photos. They also want to preserve the “Flickrness” of the site. I hope they’re successful in doing this. I’m happy that Flickr will get better but concerned that a cool site will become mundane.

From The Wall Street Journal: The PlayStation Goes Portable

“Our verdict: The PSP is an impressive hand-held game player with great graphics, good game controls and strong multiplayer capabilities. But its added multimedia capabilities, while potentially strong, are hobbled by design and cost issues, at least at launch. The PSP isn't likely to replace the iPod or the portable DVD player anytime soon.”

I suspected as much. It would be just like Sony to release functionally that would blow the doors off the competition and implements it a half-baked fashion. How many more people would buy the PSP if it could replace their iPod? Or how many parents would gladly pony-up for a PSP if Sony released software that copied a SpongeBob DVD onto the PSP? I know that’s a stretch but can you imagine?  Instead we have the option to buy UMD movies. Great. I can now buy Star Wars in another format. No thank you. Sony, I will never, ever, ever, ever buy a UMD movie. Did I mention ever? Via Joystiq.

I just found an instant messenger for my Windows SmartPhone called IM+. IM+ supports AOL, Yahoo, ICQ, and MSN. I must say that having all of my IM contacts on my phone is quite handy. Now if I can only get used to typing on a twelve key keypad.

One issue that I’ve always had with Windows XP Pro is that you can’t configure multiple root websites. So I decided to take a peek on the web for solutions. The first solution that I found was an ISAPI filter called multisite. It’s a nice solution that redirects a domain to the proper webroot. This wouldn’t work for me since I needed two websites at the root.

The second solution that I found used the IIS admin scripts to copy a website to a new one creating two roots.

I found a workaround at http://www.bobshowto.com/iis_servers.htm that allowed me to copy the existing site to a new one... essentially, by doing the following commands at the DOS command prompt:

·         > cd \inetpub\AdminScripts

·         > cscript adsutil.vbs COPY W3SVC/1 W3SVC/2

This creates a second website with the same settings.

There are two immediately noticable caveats, however...

1.      Only one website can be started at any given time, regardless if you have changed the port on which the site resides.

2.      None of the sites can be deleted.

The second caveat isn’t correct. A website can be deleted with the following command:

·         > C:\Inetpub\AdminScripts\adsutil.vbs delete W3SVC/2

Now when I need to start a website all I do is stop one and start the one I want. Not optimal but very useable.

The 3.0 version of DotNetNuke portal software has been released.  I’ve already downloaded and installed the bits and it is impressive.

DotNetNuke 3.0 includes a significant number of breakthrough enhancements which improve its versatility, power, and accessibility.  These include a more intuitive user interface, support for “drag-and-drop” content management, improved URL structuring for search engine indexing, and enhanced provisioning support for scriptable configuration.  In addition, the application underwent an extensive code access security review so that it is capable of running in a Medium Trust hosting environment.

Also available for download are official blog, forum and gallery modules. I’m thinking about migrating the Call FM site to use it. That would be so cool.

Nintendo has released a new trailer of the new Zelda game. This will be probably the last high profile game released on the GameCube. Talk about ending on a high note, this game looks awesome. The Wind Waker was the reason I picked up a GameCube and after watching this I’m glad I did. I’m speechless. I’m going to go watch the trailer again and then I’m going to pick up The Minish Cap.

Also check out GameSpot's frame by frame breakdown of the trailer.

Last night, a new Star Wars Episode III trailer premiered after the O.C. Of course I didn’t watch it since I was watching the Hurricanes blow another big lead. And of course the fans posted it on the internet as soon as it was shown. Check out this post on TwitchFilm.net to find out how you can download the trailer (I found it here). I thought the trailer was impressive, most impressive. It looks like this will be the best prequel of them all. Some of the good things I saw: Palpatine revealing himself, Padme crying, the council against Anakin, Dooku vs. Anakin in what looks like the Death Star throne room, Windu vs. Palpatine, the X-Wing predecessor, Chewie, Yoda vs. Palpatine, and Vader looking quite pleased with himself. My expectations for this film just went though the roof. Of course I quite distinctly remember seeing another Star Wars trailer and having similar expectations…that didn’t turn out quite as I hoped.

To quote the masterpiece of modern filmmaking, The Fly II “I’m getting…BETTER!”

For the past three weeks I’ve been seeing a physical therapist for my knee. It turns out that I had a partial tear in one of my ligaments. The physical therapist I’m seeing is Bruce Wilk at Orthopedic Rehabilitation Specialists. (No website, no link that’s the rule around here! But I did find a site, DefectiveShoe.com, which Bruce has put up.)

During the first visit he took a look at my shoes and immediately told me I was using the wrong shoe. What I needed was a shoe that gave me more support. So I first had to buy new shoes. I trekked to The Runner’s High in Pinecrest which is conveniently owned by Bruce. Ya got to hand it to the man; he’s defiantly got a piece of the “running market” in Miami. With new shoes in hand, er, feet I felt ready to start rehab. The next visit I was fitted with a Cho-Pat knee strap and boarded a treadmill. That’s when everything fell apart. Immediately, I was told to keep my feet straight. Then I was told to keep my arms straight. Then I needed to keep my body upright. Then..well you get the picture. I have never had any proper training in running and I was receiving a crash course and it wasn’t pretty.

That was a few weeks ago. I had a great visit last night and I’ve been really working hard to keep the proper form. I’ve been walking around making sure my feet are straight and focusing on form when I run. I’m not out of the woods yet but my knee is getting better and it’s just in a nick of time too. My church is starting a basketball league and I’ve signed up to play. Bruce wants me to finish therapy before playing, and I’ll abide by that, but I gotta admit it will sure be nice to get back on a court again. Really nice.
