Here’s a rundown of what I’m playing:

Xbox
Now Playing:
Lego Star Wars – This is a really cool game. You play the first three Star Wars episodes as Lego characters in a Lego Star Wars universe. Lucy and I are playing this one together (she won’t let me play it without her) and we’re having loads of fun.

On Deck:
X-Men Legends – I stopped playing this one to start Halo 2. As an X-Men fanboy it’s great to play comic versions of my favorite superhero team. It has gotten a bit repetitive but I haven’t given up on the title yet.
Burnout 3 – After hearing all of the praise for this game I want to find out what all of the hoopla is about.
Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords – I loved the first one and need to find forty-plus hours to play this one.

Just Finished:
The Chronicles of Riddick – Escape from Butcher Bay – I know what you’re thinking, you played a movie game? Yes, and it was great. This has to be one of the best licensed games that I’ve ever played. It’s a great mix of stealth and action. I do wish some of the boss’ were tougher. They were waaay to easy.
Halo 2 – The best on-line multiplayer available on XBox. A must have title for the XBox.

GameCube
Now Playing:
Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike – For the most part I’ve enjoyed all of the Rogue Squadron games except the Death Star 2 attack run level from Rogue Squadron II; that was too freakin’ hard. The only gripe that I’ve had with this one is that the camera for the on-foot levels sucks. You have no camera control and most of the time you can’t see where you’re shooting or where you need to go. This game also has the best level of any Rogue Squadron game – Speeder Bike Pursuit. The speed and challenge of this level is fantastic. The level isn’t frustrating, it’s just fun. I must have played this level thirty times before I finished it. When I did complete the level for the first time, it was with a gold medal.

Just Finished:
Resident Evil 4 - I hate the Resident Evil series. When I say hate I mean loathe. It’s not the subject or the content that peeves me but the camera. I can forgive lots of things but a deadly camera I cannot. Resident Evil 4 fixes the camera issue and made me forget all about my hatred of Resident Evil’s crappy cameras. This is a great game with loads of “Oh bleep” moments. I was sitting on the edge of my seat throughout this game. It’s also a much longer game than I anticipated there was about three moments where I thought that I was done with the game but it just kept going. Great visuals, story and controls make this one of two games that’s a must have for the GameCube. The other? The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker.

PSP
Now Playing:
Tiger Woods PGA Tour – I’m a firm believer that golf games are best on the portable format. Golf provides logical stopping points and the player can jump in and out of a game quickly. I can remember Golf for the original GameBoy. Simple but fun, it was one of the best titles for the colorless handheld. Tiger Woods is a simple but deep game that provides the PSP with a much needed stop and go title. BTW – it’s a blast to play. Too bad it doesn’t have online multiplayer.

Just Finished:
NFL Street Unleashed – I was really disappointed with this title. The last EA Big title I played was NBA Street vol 2 which was a delightful experience. NFL Street Unleashed is just bland. It’s far too easy to win a game without concentrating on “style” points. And speaking of “style” points why should I care? The unlockables are mediocre at best. This belongs in the rental bin kids which is why I sold this back to EB.

GameBoy Advance
Now Playing:
The Legend of Zelda II: The Adventure of Link – The forgotten Zelda title. I think I like this Zelda better than most of the fans out there. I really enjoy the RPG elements that Zelda II offers and think that it’s a nice addition to the series. Although, playing though it again somewhat lessens the fondness that I once had, Zelda II is still a solid title for its time.

On Deck:
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past – I’ve never gotten all the way through this one and looking forward to starting all over again.

Just Finished:
The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap – Can you tell that I like Zelda games? This is a really good game with a solid story, The Minsh Cap delivers a fulfilling Zelda experience on the GBA. Kinstone matching, where you try to match a villagers half of a coin with a half that you have, enhanced the game and had me returning to areas where I already fully explored. I also enjoyed the Wind Waker design of the game and hope the cell shaded look returns to the series soon. My biggest gripe was with the ending. When I finshed the game I really wanted to go back and complete some of the side missions of the game. I didn’t realize that by defeating the main villain, Vaati, would end the game. Oh well, I guess I’d have to play it though again.
The Legend of Zelda – How can I remember where to place a bomb seventeen years after-the-fact and can’t remember where I parked my car eight hours earlier? Honestly, I didn’t forget much from when I originally played this in 1987. I breezed though this in a few nights but it has held up remarkably well. The classics never die…

Playstation 2
On Deck:
Kingdom Hearts – Can you believe that I don’t have a PS2? Actually, the slim PS2 is on its way and the first game I’m playing is Kingdom Hearts. Who would have thought the idea of mixing Disney characters and Square characters would be a good one? The sequel to this looks really good so I want to check the original first.

Now Playing: Lauryn Hill - Forgive Them Father

What Video Game Character Are You? I am a Defender-ship.I am a Defender-ship.

I am fiercely protective of my friends and loved ones, and unforgiving of any who would hurt them. Speed and foresight are my strengths, at the cost of a little clumsiness. I'm most comfortable with a few friends, but sometimes particularly enjoy spending time in larger groups. What Video Game Character Are You?

This is so true it's scary.

So you’ve seen Star Wars Episode III Revenge of the Sith and you want to go back and look for all the nuances. Luckily for us StarWars.com has made an easter egg list available. See the Millennium Falcon, Mon Mothma and the boxing clone trooper on the big screen for the first, er, last time. Via Movie Blog

I gotta post this one. This video, cleverly disgisued as as 1950’s public service announcement, shows the uninitiated how to play Halo 2 on XBox Live. If you have never played on Xbox Live this will make no sense whatsoever but if you have be prepared to urinate in your pants. Via Joystiq.

My boy J writes on his E3 experience. I’m sensing some crazy jealousy on my part. He talks about how he was impressed with the number of Nintendo DS games that will be made available. That’s surprising. I, like J, thought that the DS was going to crash and burn. I’m not conceding that I was wrong but let’s not forget that the DS doesn’t have a system selling title…yet. I need E3 pics J, pics!

No fanfare. No witty retrospectives. No hoopla. I would like to use this milestone to announce the following:

PS3 or Xbox 360? I think this question is for the sages. My official response is idunno. In the end it’s all about the games. In the beginning it’s all about the hardware. Major Nelson, who works on the XBox team breaks down the PS3 and Xbox 360 specs and compares them in four parts (part one, part two, part three, part four). Great read but we still won’t really know until the hardware has been released. Via Scoble

You spend four years and mortgage your financial future to attend a private college (Da U!). You study your butt off at this scholastic intuition to receive good grades. Because of your hard work you get a great job doing something that you love. You get married and mortgage your children’s financial future to buy a house in a good neighborhood with good schools. Then you find out that you’ve moved into a neighborhood with one hundred thirty-five sexual predators! That’s right one hundred thirty-five. Thanks to our great state of Florida I now know that I live within five miles of one hundred thirty-five convicted sex offenders. Sometimes ignorance is bliss.

Here’s something cool. PocketNES is a Nintendo Entertainment System emulator for the Game Boy Advance. All you need is to load a GBA flash cartridge with NES roms and let ‘er rip. Ok maybe it’s not that easy but you get the picture. For more information on NES Emulation on the GBA check out Gameboy-Advance.net.

Thousands of lucky bastards (damn you J) have converged on Los Angeles for the world’s largest gaming show, E3. This week Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft all have announced new game consoles. Here’s a recap of what’s happened.

Microsoft announced the XBox 360 with major fanfare. Microsoft unveiled the new Xbox on MTV last week with a crappy infomercial. At E3, MS talked about the upgrades to XBox Live and the new games for the 360. Connectivity with other gamers looks to be what they are going to focus the 360 now. Overall, the new XBox looks great and is a logical iteration from the original XBox.

XBox 360 Hardware Specs
Controller: 2.4GHz Wireless
Processor: Custom IBM PowerPC CPU
Graphics Processor: Custom ATI Processor
System Memory: 512MB, 700MHz DDR
Resolution: 480p, 480i, 720p, 1080i
Integrated Communications: 802.11 A/B/G Wi-Fi
Built-in Features: Stands Vertically or Horizontally, Interchangable Face Plates
Complete Specs

Sony announced its third generation of the Playstation console at E3 and its damned impressive. The Playstation 3 will include a graphics chip that will have more processing power than two GeForce 6800 Ultras. It will also have the new Cell processor which will sport 234 million transistors. My big question is how much will this thing cost? The cost of one GeForce 6800 Ultra card is $500 and this thing will be more powerful that two? Slap in the new Cell processor and I’d love to know how they are going to sell this thing for less than $500.

PlayStation 3 Hardware Specs
Controller: Bluetooth Wireless
Processor: Cell processor (234 Million Transistors)
Graphics Processor: RSX "Reality Synthesizer" (300 Million Transistors, 90nm)
System Memory: 256MB XDR
Resolution: 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p
Integrated Communications: 802.11 B/G Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0
Built-in Features: Backwards compatible with PlayStation 2, Stands Vertically or Horizontally
Game Media Format: Blu-ray BD-ROM
Complete Specs

Nintendo showed the world a small black box and called it a Revolution. I call it vaporware. Nintendo didn’t share any hardware specs just a bunch of ideas on how they think it would work. One of these ideas is the ability to play any Nintendo game ever made on the Revolution. This is a fantastic idea. How cool would it be to play every Zelda game ever made on one console? Got an itch to play the original Dragon Warrior just download it and play it. Good job Nintendo, now go create the hardware so we can tell you how inferior you guys are to MS and Sony.

So that’s the big news from E3. Here’s a smattering of articles that explain this stuff a whole lot better than I can.

I caught this one during my lunch, Star Wars Revelations. Star Wars Revelations is a forty minute fan film with phenomenal special effects. It takes place between episodes three and four and tells the story on how the rebellion was created. Overall, I really liked it. It could use better acting and a tighter script but you’ve got to hand it to the creators, they’ve done a lot with nothing. So check this one out, it’s worth it.

Lucy and I will be embarking on some home renovations very shortly. So I’ve been browsing around for some help in doing some of the improvements ourselves and I ran across a couple of sites that have free videos. The first is from the grandfather of do-it-yourself Bob Villa. BobVilla.com has tons of videos showing how to do this or that. I searched for drywall and 27 videos were returned. Impressive. Also, HomeDepot.com has some videos from Bob’s old show, This Old House. Check it out.

Microsoft has announced the next version of Windows Mobile and it’s not called “Windows Mobile 2005”. The official name will be “Windows Mobile 5.0”. I’ll never understand why MS marketing has to continually change the names of their products. How can you present a stable brand when the name changes with each version? Anyways, here is the feature list courtesy of Engadget. This sounds like a great release for developers.

·         New mobile versions of Word Mobile, PowerPoint Mobile Viewer, and Excel Mobile.

·         Improved one-handed navigation so you don’t have to use a stylus.

·         A new camera API that’ll make it easier for developers to write apps that use a device’s built-in camera.

·         ActiveSync 4.0.

·         Better WiFi support for Smartphones.

·         Support for push-to-talk and video calling.

·         Improved Bluetooth (e.g. ability to use ActiveSync over Bluetooth with multiple PCs).

·         Support for “persistent memory,” which means that you won’t lose all your data when your battery dies (a feature the Treo 650 and several other Palms already have).

·         Support for USB 2.0 so you can connect up to external hard drives. The press release was poorly worded, MSFT meant support for USB 2.0 AND support for internal hard drives. Not support for USB 2.0 for connecting external hard drives

Update: 5/12/05 1:20 PM - You can also view Bill Gates introducing the new Windows Mobile 5.0.

For a while I was a big Kicksology fan. Last year, when I heard that the site was going to be shut down I was disheartened. Nobody reviewed a shoe like Professor K. Nobody. (He's still reviewing shoes for Sole Collector magazine. But not nearly the amount of reviews he was doing.) So when I need to buy a new shoe I needed a new site. Since Kicksology was unmatched here are a few sites where shoe reviews can be found.

KicksGuide.com
NikeTalk.com

If you need to find older/sold out kicks try PickYourShoes.com or InStyleShoes.com.
