Here’s an interesting article on the ten rules for web startups. Is it easier now to start a web company than ever before? Yup! But the key is in the idea. If the idea sucks the site will too.

This is too cool. In this “unseen” (read viral) Xbox 360 ad we get to see…well, just look for yourself. Via Joystiq.

This summer is looking to be a great season for movies. I caught the teaser for Superman Returns during Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire over the weekend and I must say my excitement for the film jumped a few spots. I also just saw the teaser for Cars, the latest film from Pixar upon the recommendation from the guys over at The Movie Blog. Talk about a studio that can do no wrong. Cars looks to improve upon The Incredibles. Is that even possible?

Microsoft has released a Step-By-Step guide on how to upgrade your Visual Studio 2002/2003 ASP.Net projects to Visual Studio 2005. I’ll probably be tackling this sometime soon so I’ll keep everyone posted on some of the problems that I encounter. Check out this quote from the doc:

If the application you are converting is of reasonable size and has several Web projects and additional projects, such as class libraries, in a single Visual Studio solution, it is possible to encounter issues during migration. Be prepared to spend the better part of a day completing the entire process. The steps and guidance provided in this article can help an informed user to migrate most applications of medium complexity.

Is seventeen projects, two of them web projects, in a single solution several? I might have some “issues” converting. Maybe in version two of the document they’ll expound on these “issues”. Via TheSeverSide.

Over the past few months I’ve been working on the report from hell. It just about does everything you could imagine but press your shirts. One of the biggest problems we’ve had to deal with is the amount of data that needs to be processed on the fly to produce the report. After version one of the report shipped we decided to investigate different ways to access the data. That’s when we found this article on Integrating Analysis Services with Reporting Services.  It covers how to use OLAP with reporting services. Our prototype worked like a champ and now we’re creating the cubes for the data to be reported against. I just wish we thought of this three months ago.

I’m thinking about moving the blog to a new host. Right now Server Intellect is the leading candidate. Look at all the stuff you get for $15 a month. They already have ASP.Net 2.0 and SQL Server 2005 is just around the corner. Stay Tuned.

The new King Kong trailer is now available.  I’m not a big fan of the story or of the fact that this movie will be THREE HOURS LONG. But the trailer has some incredible special effects such as Kong vs. a T-Rex. I probably won’t be seeing this one in the theaters but who knows? Peter Jackson is still the director and we all know how good he is at adapting stories for the big screen. Via Ain’t It Cool News.

YOU KNOW YOU LIVE IN FLORIDA WHEN....

Three months ago you couldn't hang a shower curtain; today you can assemble a portable generator by candlelight.

You have FEMA's number on your speed dialer.

You have more than 300 'C' and 'D' batteries in your kitchen drawer.

Your pantry contains more than 20 cans of Spaghetti Os.

You can recite from memory whole portions of your homeowner's insurance policy, especially HURRICANE DEDUCTIBLES

You are thinking of repainting your house to match the plywood covering your windows.

When describing your gutted house to a prospective buyer, you say it has three bedrooms, two baths and an open air feel to it.

Your SSN isn't a secret, it's written in Sharpie on your arms.

You are on a first-name basis with the cashier at Home Depot.

You are delighted to pay $3 for a gallon of regular unleaded.

The road leading to your house has been declared a No-Wake Zone.

You decide that your patio furniture looks better on the bottom of the pool.

You own more than four large coolers.

You can wish that other people get hit by a hurricane and not feel the least bit guilty about it.

You rationalize helping a friend board up by thinking "It'll only take a gallon of gas to get there and back"

You catch a 13-pound redfish - in your house.

You consider a "vacation" to stunning Tupelo, Mississippi.

At cocktail parties, women are attracted to the guy with the biggest chainsaw.

You can rattle off the names of three or more meteorologists who work at the Weather Channel.

Someone comes to your door to tell you they found your roof.

Ice is a valid topic of conversation.

Your "drive-thru" meal consists of MRE's and bottled water.

Relocating to South Dakota does not seem like such a crazy idea.

You've been laughed at over the phone by a roofer, fence builder or a tree worker.

A battery powered TV is considered a home entertainment center.

You don't worry about relatives wanting to visit during the summer.

Having a tree in your living room does not necessarily mean its Christmas.

You know the difference between the"good side" of a storm and the "bad side."

Your kids start school in August and finish in July.

You go to work early and stay late just to enjoy the air conditioning.
